AC Baths is a well-known community aquatic facility in Taupō, operated by Taupō District Council. The complex attracts locals and visitors year-round with its family-friendly pools, hydroslides, toddler areas and a range of geothermal-heated indoor and outdoor bathing options. As a high-use public facility, AC Baths prioritises durability, safety and a consistently high-quality experience for its patrons.
Over time, the facility’s original concrete spa pools began to show their age. The concrete surfaces became stained and increasingly difficult to maintain, impacting both appearance and user comfort. The team at AC Baths wanted a modern, long-lasting solution that would lift the overall standard of the spa environment.
The Challenge
AC Baths needed a replacement for their existing concrete spa pools that would:
- Resist staining and wear from geothermal water
- Provide a more comfortable and inviting surface for bathers
- Reduce long-term maintenance requirements
- Offer reliability in a busy, year-round aquatic environment
They required a product that would be visually appealing, highly durable and capable of withstanding constant use.
Our Solution
Our team and engineers designed and manufactured a new fully fibreglass spa unit tailored specifically for AC Baths’ needs.
Each spa was crafted to:
- Offer smooth, ergonomic seating for maximum comfort and relaxation
- Deliver superior durability compared to concrete, especially in demanding aquatic conditions
- Provide a clean, modern finish that enhances the look and feel of the facility

AC Baths facilities manager Darren Penketh was pleased with the final result and commented:
“There are now four private pools and they are much larger, so groups have room to spread out a bit more,” he said, “and there are also landscaped gardens in each pool room to make the spaces more user friendly. It’s great to get this project over the finish line and I think the finished pools look fantastic.”
